About Embellished Truth

Embellished Truth is trans-seasonal luxury accessories label which focuses on environmental sensibilities. Each handbag is made using the finest eco-friendly leather which has been vegetable tanned in Europe. The tanning process is free from chrome and other heavy metals and uses vegetable substances which are harvested in a sustainable manner. The end result is beautifully soft, breathable and biodegradable leather.

Inspired by Indian culture, prints and embellishments, each piece is individually created with care in London. The natural characteristics of the leather ensure that time and use will create a unique appearance to each bag adding to its natural beauty.

Creative Director Bharati Manchanda studied BA(Hons) Fashion Design at Southampton Solent University, where she realised her passion for beautiful fabrics and detailing. As a student, her eveningwear was chosen for the catwalk for BBC’s the Clothes Show and she gained recognition as a finalist in the Colgate Platinum Competition with Elle Magazine.

After graduating, Bharati worked as a designer and stylist in London, and began to develop her own creative style. She started selling one-off customised pieces at Portobello and Spitalfield markets, alongside working as Fashion Editor at Disorder Magazine.

During her experience in the fashion industry, she became aware of the possibility of making a positive contribution to the environment. She decided to branch out into the accessories market and in particular became interested in the use of ethical leather.

Embellished Truth was launched, blending fashion with a conscience and sophisticated design.

In 2012, Embellished Truth was shortlisted as a finalist for the Ethical Fashion Forum’s Innovation Award. In 2013, the brand was given the Blue Butterfly positive mark of luxury by Positive Luxury.

In 2020, during lockdown, Bharati was appointed Hype Editor at Asbo Magazine and in 2022, was named in the Top 50 Bame Entrepreneurs Under 50 by TechRound.
